Vocal technique

Students stand correctly and are breathing properly. Tone is consistently focused, clear, and centered throughout the range of the voice.

Students stand somewhat correctly and are usually breathing properly.  Tone is often focused, clear and centered, but sometimes the tone is uncontrolled in the normal singing range.

Students rarely demonstrate proper posture.  Students are rarely breathing correctly and never support the tone till the end of each phrase.  The tone is often not focused, clear or centered

 

 


Technical performance

Virtually no errors. Pitch is very accurate.  The beat is secure and the rhythms are accurate for the songs. 

 

An occasional isolated error, but most of the time pitch and rhythms are accurate and secure.  There are a few duration errors, but these do not detract from the overall performance. 

Very few accurate or secure pitches.  The beat and rhythms are seldom accurate.

 

 

 


Diction

Students articulate clearly and the text of the music is understandable.

Students articulate the words somewhat clearly and the text can be understood most of the time.

Students rarely articulate the words and the text is not discernable.

 

 


Musicality

Dynamic levels are obvious, consistent, and an accurate interpretation of the style of music being sung. Phrasing is always consistent and sensitive to the style of music being sung.

Dynamic levels are typically accurate and consistent.

Phrasing is usually consistent and sensitive to the style of music being sung.

Attention to dynamic levels is not obvious.  Phrasing is rarely consistent and/or rarely sensitive to musical style.

 

 


Expression

Demonstrates facial expression and body language that effectively communicate emotions of songs.

Demonstrates facial expression and body language that somewhat communicate emotions of songs.

Demonstrates no facial expression or body language to communicate emotions of songs.
